Growing numbers of Americans are at risk of a bite from the lone star tick (Amblyomma americanum), particularly in areas where nature and urban development meet (Plos Climate, 23 April). Bad news for devoted Texan barbecue enthusiasts, as such a bite can trigger an allergy to red meat.
