This lesson is primarily about discovery and learning that the parts of the female genitalia come in a variety of shapes and sizes. In approximately 70 to 90 minutes (which can be varied depending on whether you go for depth or breadth), pupils decorate their own vulva cupcake! It does require some preparation from the teacher, as a cupcake needs to be baked for everyone – but that makes the lesson a delightful celebration. This lesson is intended mainly as a closing activity for a topic or chapter; very little explanation is needed beforehand. After an introduction, pupils get started with a knowledge quiz, receive instructions from the worksheet, and can then work in small groups on their vulva designs. Avoid putting pupils uncomfortably on the spot; keep the atmosphere light and focus on creativity. You finish with a plenary discussion and the enjoyment of the vulva cupcakes!
